How Long a Window Installation Really Takes
People ask about timings because they are really asking three things. How long will the house be open, how much disruption is there, and how many days do I need to be in. This is the honest answer to all three, from a team that fits these every week.

Typical timings by job size
Fitting time is predictable once the frames are made. It is the survey to delivery gap that varies, and that is manufacturing time rather than our diary.
- One standard casement window, around 90 minutes to two hours
- A bay window, half a day because the pole and the loading have to be set correctly
- A composite front door, four to six hours and finished the same day
- A three bedroom house of eight to ten windows, two to three days
- A full house of windows plus front and back doors, three to four days
- Patio or bi fold door on an existing opening, one day, or two if a lintel is needed
What happens on the day
We work one opening at a time. The old frame comes out, the new one goes straight in, and the house is never left with several holes open at once. Furniture is moved back from the reveal before we start, floors are covered and the old frames and glass go into the van as we go rather than piling up in the garden.
The internal reveal is made good with a trim or filler as part of the job. Plaster reveals that were damaged before we arrived are pointed out at the survey so nobody is surprised on day one.
Do you need to be at home
Someone needs to be there at the start and the end of each day, and for the walk round at handover. Beyond that you can carry on with your day. We work 7:30 in the morning through to the evening and we will always leave a house watertight and secure overnight, never open or boarded.
Common questions
How long between the survey and the fitting date?
The frames are made to your measurements, so the wait is manufacturing time, typically a few weeks. We give you the date at the point of order rather than leaving it open ended.
Will my walls be damaged?
There is always some disturbance to the internal reveal because the old frame is bedded into it. We cut out carefully rather than levering, and making good is included. Full redecoration is not, and we say so before you book.
Can you fit windows in the rain?
Yes, and in South Wales we would rarely work otherwise. Each opening is only exposed for a short window of time and we work under cover where the elevation demands it.
Do I need to move everything out of the room?
No, just clear a metre in front of each window, take down curtains and blinds, and lift anything fragile off the sill. We cover the rest.
