How Much Do New Windows Cost, Per Window and Per House
Nobody wants a range so wide it tells them nothing, so this guide explains the things that actually move a window price up or down, and how the per window figure changes once you buy a whole house at once. We quote after a free survey because measuring is the only honest way to price a window, but you should walk into that survey knowing how the numbers are built.

Why a per window price is misleading on its own
A window price is driven by area first, opening count second and glass specification third. A large fixed pane with no opener costs less to make than a small window split into three sashes, because the cost sits in the hardware and the sealed units rather than the plastic. That is why two windows of the same width can be hundreds of pounds apart.
Access matters too. A ground floor front window on a level street is a straightforward fit. The same window on the third storey of a Pontypridd terrace with no rear lane needs scaffold or a tower, and that cost is real whether or not an installer shows it separately on the quote. We show it.
What pushes a window price up
In rough order of impact, these are the choices that change a quote the most.
- Overall glazed area, measured to the outer frame rather than the glass
- The number of opening sashes, since every opener adds hardware and labour
- Frame material, with aluminium above uPVC and timber above both
- Coloured or foiled finishes, and dual colour inside and out
- Triple glazing instead of double, which adds glass weight and heavier hinges
- Obscure, acoustic, toughened, laminated or leaded glass
- Bay and bow shapes, which need a structural pole or load bearing frame
- Access equipment, structural lintels and any making good to render or plaster
Why a whole house costs less per window
A full house replacement carries one survey, one delivery, one skip, one scaffold hire and one team mobilisation across every opening rather than each one. The manufacturing run is also more efficient when every frame in the order shares a profile and colour. That is why the per window figure on a nine window house is always lower than the same window bought alone, and it is the main reason we push people who need six or more windows to do them together.
There is a quality argument as well. Replacing half a house leaves you with two ages of frame, two whites that never quite match and two different seal conditions on the same elevation.
What our quote includes and what it never includes
Our written quote covers survey, manufacture to your measurements, delivery, removal of the old frames, fitting, internal and external sealing, making good the reveal, disposal of the old units and the certificate for the work. It does not include redecoration beyond making good, curtain or blind refitting, or any structural work that only becomes visible once a frame is out. If we find rot in a lintel we stop, show you and price it before continuing, rather than adding it to the bill afterwards.
Common questions
Can you give me a window price over the phone?
We can talk through the specification and the choices that move the price, but we do not give a fitted figure until we have measured. Phone prices in this trade are usually an opening number designed to get a salesperson through the door, and ours would be no more accurate than anyone else's.
Is it cheaper to replace windows in winter?
Slightly, in the sense that January and February are quieter than spring, so lead times are shorter and we can be flexible on dates. The material cost does not change with the season, and a competent fitter takes one opening at a time so the house never stands open.
Do I pay a deposit?
Yes, a deposit covers the manufacturing order, with the balance due on completion once you have walked round the finished job with us. We are fully insured and our Checkatrade profile is rated 10 out of 10 by verified customers.
Will new windows actually cut my heating bill?
If you are replacing single glazing or failed 1990s units, yes, and noticeably. If you are replacing sound A rated windows fitted in the last ten years, the saving alone will not repay the job and we will tell you that at the survey.
